My dog scratches constantly and falls down. Should I give him Benadryl?

My dog is constantly scratching he even scratches as he walks and falls down. Can I give him Benadryl to help with the scratching. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 45 lbs

You could try benadryl but in such a severe case it is unlikely to be effective and will delay appropriate diagnosis and treatment. I would recommend a full physical exam and skin scraping to rule out mites and infections also
