How to safely give my bunny sun exposure for vitamin D in heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 23 days old | 6 lbs

Thank you doctors. My bunny is 1 years old. We live in a very hot country where temperature could rise to 55°C. Early mornings are still very hot. I dont want to harm her but want to figure out a way to expose her to the sun without it causing her major issues. Also, are there specific times where vit D is better absorbed? How long should bunny be exposed per day? Peace and love

Hello, Good question! Yes, it would be good for her to get either direct sunlight OR you can use a UVB light bulb over her cage. If you take her outside for sunlight I would do it in small increments at the coolest part of the day - example, 15 minutes 2 to 3 times per day. That should be sufficient.
