My cat ate caramels and tin. Is it toxic? Should I make him vomit?

My cat ate 2 caramels, with a bit of tin wrapping, and I keep seeing mixed reviews on their toxicity. Should I make him throw up?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Pudge. Typically caramels are not toxic if they don't contain xylitol. At most, it may cause some stomach upset, but usually there isn't an issue. As for the tin wrapping, that tends to pass without problem. I do not think in this case you need to induce vomiting. I would just keep an eye on him for now. I hope this helps!

No they should pass ok. I would feed them so the wrappers get through the intestinal tract with the food. If they start vomiting or won't eat or do not pass stool the I would take them right in for an exam and X-rays. As long as they are acting normally it's fine to watch them and wait. This candy is not toxic for your pup. It's a lot of sugar, so he may be a bit hyperactive and may have some intestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea). If he has vomiting or diarrhea that lasts for more than 24 hours, is very lethargic, or otherwise seems off, I would recommend a vet visit, but there's nothing you need to do right now. Maple syrup isn't toxic to cats, but the sugar could upset Mirz's stomach. The butter could have caused the vomiting as well since cats are lactose intolerant. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Should I induce vomiting on my 11 lb dachshund who eat a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, wrapper and all
I certainly wouldn't worry about inducing vomiting after just one peanut butter cup. The induction of vomiting poses more risks than the peanut butter cup does! Inducing vomiting at home with hydrogen peroxide comes with the risk of aspiration and significant irritation to the esophagus and stomach. The wrapper will pass without a problem. There isn't enough chocolate in a peanut butter cup to cause any toxicity concerns. Worst case scenario, Jack may develop an upset stomach with a bit of vomiting and diarrhea. If he does, you can offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually transitioning back to his normal food. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do back home and he needs to be seen by your veterinarian as soon as possible as this type of foreign body can cause chronic inflammation and sit down in the gastrointestinal system for long time if not removed appropriately. My cat ate a piece small piece of milk chocolate with caramel inside. I got to her in time to see her eat it bit was unable to prevent her from swallowing. Vets around me are all closed. What should I do? Is it very serious ?
The good news is that milk chocolate is the least toxic type of chocolate, and if it was a small piece with caramel inside, there likely isn't a lot of chocolate in it and your cat should be fine. I recommend monitor her for now, and if you do see some signs of chocolate toxicity such as vomiting, lethargy, or anorexia, I would have her seen by a vet. It's likely, however, she will be just fine :-)

I have 2 large dogs (110 and 100 pounds). One or both ate about 5-6 Reeses Peanut Butter egss sometime today (or possibly yesterday but I think today). They are acting fine. Do I need to make them vomit?
This is not enough chocolate to cause toxicity unless your pets have an abnormal sensitivity. Check the ingredients to make sure there is no xylitol as this is toxic to dogs. If xylitol is present, they need to go to the veterinarian right away for further decontamination. While you may not see any adverse effects, eating candy can result in vomiting or diarrhea. Watch both your pups very closely for any adverse effects and have them seen by the veterinarian if needed. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My cat appears to have eaten part of a Kind bar. It likely happened between 4:00 and 6:00. He doesn’t seem to be showing any different signs. Should I rush him to the vet?
If the bar contained chocolate there is potential for toxicity, although I would guess he would need to eat more than a bar to have any problems (knowing his weight would help and you can repost your question). If it didn’t have any chocolate and he didn’t eat the plastic he shouldn’t have any problems.

My cat just ate a candy wrapper
This is small enough that it has a good chance of passing with any major concerns. Keep an eye on Cheeky for any signs of trouble which includes: excessive vomiting, little to no appetite, little to no stool +/- lethargy. I would then feed her some canned food to help bind the wrapper and hopefully help it pass along. Monitor the stools daily until it is found. If you happen to see any symptoms develop, then a trip to your vet is warranted. I do hope that Cheeky does well and has no issues with this wrapper ingestion. As mentioned earlier it is rather small and flimsy, so it should be able to pass on its own. Best wishes and take care.
