My puppy licked Biofreeze. Is it toxic? Why won't he eat his food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 19 days old | 17 lbs

My puppy licked a tiny bit of Biofreeze off of my arm last night. He seems fine and peppy but isn't running to eat his morning feeding as he usually does. I tried to give him one or 2 pellets and he ate it but won't eat the rest of the bowl. Will he be okay. Is there something I can do?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Biofreeze is not toxic to dogs. It may cause local irritation in the mouth, vomiting and potentially mild diarrhea. Try to offer Dante wet food or add some warm water to his kibbles to moisten them up. If he refuses to eat for longer than 24hrs, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.
