Parakeet green urine: Is it diet or a sign of liver disease? Vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female | unspayed

I recently came into possession of a parakeet who was found a couple months ago in someone's yard. I've had her for a few days, and I noticed today that her wet urine is bright green, and the urates might be tinged yellow. I know that's a sign of liver disease, and I want to take her to a vet, but my parents are saying that maybe it's the change in diet that's causing it and we should wait. But I don't want to postpone until it's too late. Should we take her to a vet ASAP or wait?

If Skyla is fine otherwise, not showing any other sign of disease, it is fine to wait. If the feces persist of the same colour more than a week from changing the diet a check up will be required at your local vets.
