My dog's temperature fluctuates and stomach grumbles after mating. Is she okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 76 lbs

Stephanie is going through her cycle. After mating some days ago (about 5 - 7 days ago), i have recorded Stephanie's temperature fluctuate between 37.7°C to 37.8°C, with one or two occasional spikes to exactly 38.6°C and it fell back down to 37.7°C again. Her appetite is very normal, her stool is firm chocolate brown (no diarrhoea, though it turns black after staying long in the sun), she is not vomiting, not coughing, no symptoms. Though sometimes, I could hear her gut grumbling. Is she okay?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Stephanie. Her temperature is still within the normal range. As long as she is eating, drinking and acting normal, it should be fine to monitor her. Her gastrointestinal tract could be grumbling for any number of reasons. She could have mild GI upset from her diet, stress or possible pregnancy. If it gets worse or she begins to act sick, then I recommend that she sees a veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
