Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Male | neutered | 12 years and 8 months old | 22 lbs
I have a 13 years old Goldendoodle (mini 25 pounds). He is refusing to eat his dry kibble. I was told to add water to his kibble to make it moist and soft. He loved it and actually ate everything. But after some research I saw that moist kibble can be one of the biggest causes of bloat in dogs, so out of fear I stopped feeding him that. Is is truly dangerous? Mixing wet and dry food doesn’t work as he licks and eats only the wet food. He still chews bones and toys, so no teeth problem.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is not true that moist kibbles increase the risk of bloat. The risk factors for bloat include feeding one large meal rather than 2-3 meals, feeding from raised bowls, exercising after a meal. Bloat is also more common in nervous dogs. As long as you try and avoid these risk factors, you can feed Spike moist kibbles.
