Do my 2-month-old kittens have worms? Diarrhea, white grains in poop.

my three kittens (2 months old) are all experiencing the same symptoms. theyve all had diarrhea since they stopped getting milk off of their mommy, has had a little mucus in their poo, losing a little weight, havent been as active, have had little white grain things in their poo, their fur doesnt look as healthy. i was wondering if this could be worms or something more serious

Little white grain things sounds like tapeworm segments. I suspect they may have tapeworms. Take them into the vet along with a sample of their poop for the vet to examine. If they do have tapeworms, the vet will give you medication to treat as well as flea medication. Fleas carry tapeworms, so make sure all the animals in your home are up to date with their flea medication. I hope this helps!

Tapeworm proglottids do look like small granules of rice and can move around. Since Kunnu is only 10 days old I would recommend seeing a veterinarian if possible. Praziquantel is the medication that is typically used to treat tapeworms but it is not recommended for use in kittens less than 6 weeks of age. Tapeworms are usually transmitted by fleas, so you may want to check for fleas as well.

Worms! Roundworms or hookworms would be my guess, they look like vermicelli noodles. Tapeworms are also possible, they are flatter and often break off into small pieces. I would recommend that you have Violet examined by a vet and tested for intestinal parasites to make sure that she receives the correct medication.

I have recently gotten 2 very young kittens-they are about 4-5 weeks old. (I thought mother had abandoned them.) they are about 4-5 weeks old. One has had one reg. bowel movement but for the most part bothhave diarrhea. I am feeding them with KMR kit
I would deworm them with Panacur. Intestinal worms are very common in kittens, causing diarrhea. You can get Panacur from your vets office. It’s a three day course of treatment that you will need to give again two weeks after the first ends. This kills all the worms. They should then be dewormed every two weeks until they are three months old, then monthly until six months of age, after which they should be dewormed every three months. If the Panacur doesn’t help with the diarrhea, I would take them into the vet for a health check. As a side note, they are now old enough for a kitten formulated food. I would start weaning them onto one. I hope this helps!

I am sorry to hear about your kitten! Unfortunately, GI parasites (such as roundworms, hookworms, giardia, and coccidia) are very common in kittens as a cause of diarrhea. Some of these can be treated with over the counter dewormer such as pyrantel (round and hook worms) but the others require prescription medication for treatment. It can also be difficult to dose the over the counter medication in a tiny kitten. I would recommend an examination by your veterinarian (Bring a stool sample with you) so they can check for these parasites. In the meantime, you can try picking up a probiotic from your vet or the pet store which will often help decrease the severity of diarrhea. Fortiflora by purina is the one we use most commonly (you can get that brand at your vet's office or online).

Tape worm segments look like small grains of rice or sesame seeds. Regular wormers do not kill tapeworm. You would need to use a wormer with the ingredient Praziquantel. Since you mention that he is a kitten, it is better to have him wormed by your veterinarian. Tapeworm will likely not kill your kitten, but it needs to be treated. Your vet can also give James a good wellness exam to determine whether he is healthy. The bloat and diarrhea can very well be due to intestinal parasites.

It sounds like your cat(s) have tapeworms. Most commonly, these are contracted when your cat's are grooming themselves and swallow adult fleas. Typically, where there are tapeworms, there are or have been fleas. Tapeworms require specific dewormers and the safest ones are available through your veterinarian.

A mommy cat gave birth to five beautiful kittens in my garage a couple months ago. The kittens are fat and playful, but lately, they have had diarrhea. Also, three of the five have their third eyelid showing. A male and female are looking the worst.
A dewormer would be beneficial if the diarrhea is caused by worms, however if they also have eye discharge or third eyelids showing I would be concerned about other issues ongoing such as a respiratory infection or illness. The kittens, if they are about 2-3 months old, are also of the age where they should be getting their first set of vaccines, exams, etc. It would be best to bring them into your vet for a complete checkup, checking the stool to figure out the cause of the diarrhea, look at the eyes, and get started on a health and vaccination plan.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your kitten. Tapeworms will look similar to grains of rice stuck to the anal area or where the kitten sleeps. It is a good idea to have a fecal sample tested by the veterinarian as many times the kitten is infected with more than one type of parasite. This way an appropriate dewormer may be prescribed. The kitten may have diarrhea, but not necessarily. The attached picture is not clear enough for me for me to see. I hope this information helps!

From the picture, it looks like diarrhea to me. Make sure both kittens are up to date on their deworming treatments, as intestinal worms cause diarrhea. If they aren't up to date on it, give them both one. I still think having them checked out by a vet is the best idea, however, just to make sure they are ok. Best of luck.

The most common reason for diarrhea in kittens is worms. I suspect the vet will give them a general dewormer at their exam. I suggest you stop any milk replacer or milk products if you are using them as they can also cause diarrhea. At 5 weeks they can eat solid foods and don't need milk.
