My kitten has crusty eyes & discharge, seems healthy. What's wrong?

My son found a kitten at a friend's house yesterday that seems healthy aside from having some eye discharge. When she wakes up, her eyes are a bit crusty. We've been wiping with warm, moist paper towels to help clear the drainage. Eyes seem clear otherwise and she's not behaving like she is in pain at all.

It sounds and looks like Lemon has an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take her into a vet today. She is super cute!

It sounds like Pepita has an eye infection or has injured her eye. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take her into a vet immediately to have this problem examined, diagnosed, and treated. Best of luck.

Our 8 week old kitten is having excessive watering in her right eye with very little discharge
This can be a sign that Cleo has injured her eye or has an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision. Please take her into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

I rescued a kitten last week and she had her first vet visit last Thursday. Today we noticed her left eye has discharge with puffy eye. She is licking her paw and rubbing it.
What a cute little kitten! Gemma may have a touch of conjunctivitis (an inflammation of the pink tissues in the eye), which is usually caused by a virus or bacteria. This is really common in young kittens, and does require a visit to your vet. You might consider just calling them up as she was just there on Thursday - they may be able to squeeze you in soon. Conjunctivitis usually requires a topical antibiotic twice daily to prevent damage to the eye, especially if she's pawing at it. I recommend giving your vet a call so Gemma can feel better soon :)

It sounds like Squeak could have an eye infection. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. You need to take her into a vet immediately to have her eye examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed. I hope this helps!

I have a found an approximately one month old kitten in my backyard porch; however he has eye discharge stuck in the bottom corner of his eye. What should I give and him and do you know what it could possibly be?

He will need to see a vet immediately for this, this is not something that can be treated at home. Just got this girl yesterday and her eyes are getting increasingly crusty. We bathed her and it is worse if anything. Tan colored pus. What can I buy to put in her eyes to help her? This is our first cat, very worried!
Poor Bella! What a beautiful kitty she is. I can see that her eyes are definitely very crusty. Eye infections are very common in kittens, and often cause the kind of crusty discharge that you are seeing. She will need prescription eye drops from a vet to treat the infection, so I would recommend taking her for a vet exam as soon as you are able to. Ideally, it would be best to have her seen today at an emergency clinic if possible, because severe eye infections can cause permanent damage and even vision loss in some cases without prompt treatment. If you aren't able to take her to an emergency vet over the holiday weekend, then I would definitely see a regular vet on Tuesday morning so that she can get started on medication to treat the problem. In the meantime, you can use plain saline eye flush to gently rinse her eyes, and clean away the crusty discharge a few times a day with a warm washcloth. Hi, I got a kitten for my daughter about a week ago from my friend. He's about 7 or 8 weeks old and had some sort of eye irritation. I've tried warm compress to clear up the crustyness and clean his eyes but it hasn't gone away yet. His inner eyelids
Poor Kit Kat. He has what appears to be a very common viral infeciton (either Kitty herpesvirus or calicivirus) and a secondary bacterial infection of the eyes. This needs be treated with topical eye antibiotic ointment through your veterinarian unfortunately. He also should receive oral anti-viral supplements which you can get through online sources or from your local pharmacy, when available. But I would make an appt soon for him before this gets any worse. I hope your sweet kitty feels better soon.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. These kittens have an infection around their eyes, and especially at such a young age infections can lead to loss of sight. I recommend you have them into a vet right away to get some eye medication for them. You will likely need an antibiotic, and therefore will require a prescription, so you need to take them to a vet. If you can't get to a vet right away, use natural tears (human product is ok, just make sure no medications are present and it is just natural tears), and apply this 4-6 times a day to keep the eye lubricated. This will try to prevent an ulcer which can lead to more complications with sight. Best of luck with the little ones!

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. My 9day old kitten had a crusty eye. We were able to wash it off with human eyedrops and then water. It's been a few hours and it hasn't returned. My mom, who is a doctor, says it was just an eye booger. Is she correct? Are we safe?
Without seeing the kitten, it's hard to say for sure if this is a problem or not. Eye infections are extremely common in young kittens, so you will need to monitor her closely for the next day or so. If the crusting and discharge come back again, or if the eye appears red or swollen, these are signs of an infection - in that case, she should be examined by a vet since she will need prescription eye ointment to treat the infection.
