How to care for a senior dog's bleeding paw tumor and ease discomfort?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 11 years old | 126 lbs

Hello, My GSD just turned 11. He has cancerous tumor on toes and we wrap his foot and change bandage 2x daily. Vet said he has tumor near heart, so they cannot amputate toes. He’s happy and full of life. I know his life is short, but how do we stop the bleeding? Is there anything we can do to make it easier for him? Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you

No, there is not really anything you can do for the bleeding, unfortunately. What I would recommend is that you apply this Biozide Gel. Apply to the wound, put a non-stick Telfa pad on it and then bandage it. Change the bandage every 1-2 days. https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=101737 https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=104377 https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=109629 You do need to keep that bandaged and do not allow him to lick/chew it. So, you should have him wear a cone. The cone needs to be long enough to go past the end of his nose. You can use a soft-sided collar if you wish.
