Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 8 months old | 105 lbs

I can’t afford a vet right now, unemployed due to COVID-19. Does anyone know of free vet care in DC Metro area? My dog has severely swollen anal area. I’ve tried glandex and pumpkin purée. He poops fine now, for a while strained. 13 ur old mastiff mix, about 100lbs, still active & energetic. TY

If conservative home care for impacted anal glands has not worked, it may not be anal gland related. That could be a tumor or a perianal hernia. Unfortunately, either would require a physical exam and possibly x-rays for diagnosis. Contact local clinics or humane societies. They would have a better idea of local services available.
