My baby goat's left side is bulging. Is this normal for young goats?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Goat | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 29 days old | 15 lbs

I have 2 ND boys 8.5 weeks old have received CD&T at 6 weeks (plan to do a booster this weekend) bottle fed formula and have never had a problem. They eat fresh orchard grass hay and some oak leaves, love to play and super friendly. They both have extremely enlarged left sides and have darker urine. I’m not sure what to do. They are both hungry and want to keep eating and playing. They are pooping and fine and ate some baking soda that I offered. I just love them so much!

Hello. You have perfectly normal kids. The rumen is on the left side, so this will naturally bulge a bit more than the right side. As long as they are eating well, have no diarrhea, you do not need the baking soda. They are ridiculously cute! Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
