My spayed dog mated and has pregnancy signs. Is she pregnant?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 27 lbs

My dog was sterelised few months ago. She is now having heat cycle because of ovarian remnant left. During her heat cycle accidentally matting happened. Now her mammary glands are enlarging and she has started besting behaviour. How is it possible to have babies now? We can't afford the babies right now. What are the ways in which we can avoid it.

It is absolutely not possible for Tofy to have babies. Her uterus was removed even though there was an ovarian remnant left. She is having a false pregnancy, which is when a dog shows signs of being pregnant without being pregnant. I would have another surgery done to remove the ovarian remnant. I hope this helps!

It is not possible for a spayed female dog to become pregnant, because the spay procedure involves complete removal of the ovaries and uterus. So if your dog became pregnant, then she was never spayed. I would recommend discussing the situation with the veterinarian who you believe did the procedure to see what may have happened in this case.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Maya! Sometimes when a dog is spayed close to the start or the end of a heat cycle they can experience pregnancy signs (false pregnancy). This occurs due to a hormonal imbalance or sudden withdrawal of hormones. The body then thinks that it is pregnant when it is not. The dog will carry stuffed animals around like puppies, nest, act clingy or anxious, they can even have mammary gland development and produce milk! It is temporary but can last 2 months but can be shorter. Hello. It is tough to tell without an x-ray or ultrasound exam. It is very possible that the male still had viable sperm in his reproductive tract ( sperm can remain viable for 3-4 weeks in the accessory sex glands of a recently neutered male ). It could be a false pregnancy, but more likely she did become pregnant from the recently neutered male dog. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

While it could be that Lily is pregnant, unfortunately I cannot diagnose pregnancy from a picture. It could also be she is suffering from a false pregnancy, which is where the dog shows the signs of being pregnant but without actually having puppies. I recommend making a vet visit for her in another week. The vet can diagnose if she is pregnant or not. Best of luck.

I feel my dog is having a phantom pregnancy she is lactating but is spayed has become very placcid and doesn't want to move.
It's very unusual for a spayed female to suffer from a phantom pregnancy, i would strongly recommend to take her to the vet in order to get that checked, it may be a case of a remnant ovary or maybe it is an infection of the mammary glands.

I would expect the problem not to reoccur a month after the spay surgery, but in some cases it can take up to two month for full effect of the operation. If by then the issue happens again then I would suspect there is a problem, possibly an email topic ovarian tissue some were in the abdominal cavity that was not removed during the spay and is still secreting female hormones. If it does happen again, a blood test to measure these hormones will be the next step.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Boo! If Boo had a heat recently and you know for sure she isn't pregnant then she is likely experiencing a false pregnancy. This is a hormonal imbalance where the dog thinks she is pregnant when she isn't. The mammary glands can enlarge and produce milk, she can show nesting behavior, carry toys around like babies and act needy or anxious. False pregnancies last 2-3 months and tend to reoccur with subsequent heat cycles, so it would be best to have her spayed once her symptoms resolve. What does false pregnancy mean in dogs?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kali. False pregnancies occur in dogs that have not been spayed. The hormonal fluctuations make the dog feel, act and look pregnant despite not being. The dog's belly and mammary glands can enlarge. She will display nesting behavior and may find household objects to tend to like puppies. Please clarify the differences between true pregnancy and false pregnancy
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! In true pregnancy there are puppies present in the uterus (womb). Hormones that keep the pregnancy going are produced by the corpus luteum and from the placentas. The exact cause of a false pregnancy is unknown. However, hormonal imbalances, especially of progesterone and prolactin, are thought to play an important role in its development. Symptoms start 1-2 months after the heat cycle ends. There are no puppies present. Some female dogs have been found to show such abnormal symptoms within 3-5 days after being spayed I hope this helps!
