My cat has a fluid lump at the amputation incision. Is it a seroma?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! My cat had his hind leg amputated around 14 hours ago and now it looks like there’s a ball under his skin at the incision site, like a fluid build up. There’s very light bruising (I would say the same as when I picked him up) and there is no any discharge from the incision. My vet opens in 5 hours, I’d prefer to wait for him rather than go to the emergency clinic. What do you think?

It's possible that it is a seroma - or serous fluid build up under the skin. The brusing doesn't look too bad. I think he can wait 5 hours to see your vet, but if the brusing worsens or his condition worsens, he needs to go to the ER asap.
