My dog has red spots on her belly and hind leg. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 12 lbs

My dog has a bright red spot on her belly near her hind leg and another red spot. Not quite as bright red but larger and still noticeable surrounding one of her freckles. It is not causing her severe itching or pain, but you can tell it’s annoying her somewhat. She’s mostly an indoor dog aside from walks in the neighborhood and playing in our yard. She never goes off leash and rarely gets into things. Should I be concerned? I tried to attach pics but it won’t let me

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Frankie. These could be black fly bites, which can be common during this time of year. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for sure so I'd have it checked out by a vet to be safe. I hope this helps!

It may be an allergy to something specific in the environment or something else like fleas or food. This may go away on its own if it is something minor. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! The symptoms you describe can be caused by a skin infection. Dogs with fleas and/or skin allergies are more prone to skin infections due to the chronic damage to the skin. Your vet can take some samples to rule out fungal infections and determine the appropriate treatment for your pet. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any questions you have!

8 month old puppy has bright red spots on belly and under legs. About 1cm, probably 25 in all. No itching or discomfort
Hi and thank you for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to see that Finn is having this problem. I see lesions or spots like this occasionally on dogs in the same areas. Most of the time these spots resolve without treatment but most of the cases I have seen are much more mild with fewer spots. I always wonder whether these are related to some kind of insect sting/spider bites, contact irritation from something in the environment, etc. Some of these lesions or spots can resemble small areas of hemorrhage too which could indicate blood clotting disorders and those causes can be numerous. I would advise your veterinarian evaluate these since Finn has a lot of them. I think that if he is acting completely normal you could monitor this and see if they resolve. So if he acts normal, eats, drinks, uses the bathroom normally you could just see if they resolve. If anything is different, he should be evaluated immediately. So a red/black spot has appeared beetween the leg and the abdomen of my dog and I'm not sure if this is just a scratch or it can be something serious. It's been a week and I haven't seen much change. There's a difference of two days between photos.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is hard to know for sure based on these pictures though this is likely a normal pigmentation change. If it is not associated with itchiness or discomfort, there is no need to be concerned about this. Red spots in belly, worse under front “armpits”. Been there a while, restricted diet and be change. Allergy or something else?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Aller

My dog has red spots around his bladder area, wondering what this could be? Does he need to be seen for emergency care?
Hi there, These appear similar to black fly bites, which appear as dramatic dark red welts, but are otherwise harmless. The skin remains smooth but may be slightly raised or swollen. Google images is helpful on this one! If the skin is itchy, crusting, flaking, and not smooth- that could be a sign of a bacterial or fungal infection that needs diagnostics and treatment. It's not an emergency, but it would be good to have Finn seen this week by his veterinarian to have them evaluated. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My dog suddenly has a bunch of red spots on his stomach, chest and groin. They are not raised, and do not seem to be itchy. One is very target-shaped in appearance. Can you please tell me what these are?
These are likely fly or insect bites. They should fade in the next day or two. If he begins to itch, contact your veterinarian for a dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking. These bites are common in the Spring.

My pet has been on flea and tick prevention his whole life but all of a sudden we left him with a family member when we went out of town and when we got him back he had all of these red mark on him. We thought they were tick bites but have not found
I just saw an article about something like this today. These may be fly bites. You're in the right area for black flies and these marks look similar to the ones in the article (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/pets/a27755129/red-spots-on-dog-stomach/). If he is scratching excessively or seems uncomfortable, take him to see you vet, but if these are indeed black fly bites, the season is short and then they're gone.

My puppy had a red spot on him last night. It disappeared. But now today there are two spots in different locations on his tummy. Should I be worried?
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. The spots look unusual. They don't look like typical allergic reaction, infection or parasite infestation. Maybe Benny was bitten by a bug or a tick ? Please, take Benny to your local vet for full clinical examination. Your vet may recommend blood test to check his platelet count and skin testing to find out what is going on. Benny will likely need an anti-inflammatory medication in cream or ointment for a few days.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. It could definitely be a small bug bite, or even a pimple or an ingrown hair, although it doesn’t look very inflamed. Since he was recently groomed, he could have gotten knicked by the clippers in that area, making it slightly reddened. As long as he doesn’t seem bothered by it and it isn’t painful to the touch, and he is otherwise healthy, I don’t think he needs to go to the vet right now. I would recommend monitoring the spot to see if it changes in appearance at all (color, size) or if more spots appear anywhere on his body. If this occurs, Cash may need to be evaluated by a veterinarian who can examine the spot more closely and determine if it has become infected. I hope this helps!
