How stressful is a long-distance flight for my cat? Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 20 lbs

My friend has a 20 pound, almost 3-year old black cat, "Henry". I love this cat sooooooo much. He wants to bring Henry with his on a round-trip flight from Boston to San Francisco. Henry has never been on a plane, is unfamiliar with carriers, etc. I worry about the stress he will have to endure to make this 7-hour flight. Am I making too much out of this?!? The vet gave Henry a clean bill of health, last week. My buddy doesn't seem worried, I am very worried. Should I be worried??????

I think it is very stressful for a cat to travel like this. Cats are not dogs and so they don't adapt well to be taken all over the place. I think it is best if he stays home but ultimately it is up to your friend.
