My 85. Lb dog just ate about 6 oz of dark chocolate covered almonds. Do I need to induce vomiting? And is there a way besides peroxide as its hard to come by via covid 19.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Koga. This amount of dark chocolate is enough to cause mild to moderate toxicity. He needs to see a vet immediately to get treated for chocolate toxicity, and the vet can safely induce vomiting. No, there is no other way to do it at home, which is why he has to see a vet now. Best of luck.

It is unlikely that 4 dove dark chocolates are enough to cause toxicity in your dog and I would concur with your veterinarian and not induce vomiting. If you like you can monitor your dog for signs of toxicity which should occur about 6 to 12 hours after ingestion, if at all, these being, hyperactivity and agittion, to at worst tremors and seizures. At the amount your dog ate I would not expect any signs, ar at the most, hyperactivity, which should pass after a while. If your dog gets very agitated then do see a veterinarian or take him to a pet ER.

Awww, he is a cute little troublemaker! If it was just a little coating some popcorn, it may not be problematic but being dark chocolate and him being such a small dog, try to estimate how much chocolate you think he may have ingested. Use this calculator from the link to determine whether or not you need to seek an emergency vet. If she DID vomit following the hydrogen peroxide, just monitor her for acting nervous, anxious, or twitchy. If you notice any of those signs, or If he vomits continually or develops watery diarrhea, please seek an emergency vet. Any symptoms from the chocolate, you can expect to see develop within 12 hours. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

If she has vomited up the all of the chocolate then the risks of any side effects are very low. Monitor for any signs such as agitation, confusion or tremors and contact your vet if seen. Peroxide can cause irritation of the stomach, small frequent meals over the next 3-4days can help, occasionally additional treatment may be required from your vet if vomiting persists or she refuses to eat
