My FIV cat has spreading bumps on her nose. What could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 12 lbs

Hi, Due to total lockdown I still can’t take my cat to the vet (I live in Panama). She has developed 3 little bumps in her nose in a week and one of them started to turn black on top (like a blackhead). My fear is that by grooming herself she could open the bumps (she already did with one), because when she does, it spreads. Started with just one, now she has 3. What could this be? How can I treat it at home meanwhile? She eats, plays, and has a normal life so far. She’s FIV positive.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tita Josefina. She will need to see her veterinarian when you are able to do so. In the meantime, I recommend placing an E-collar on her. If she cannot groom her face, she will be less likely to damage the bumps. I worry that she has developed a skin infection. This could be bacterial or some cats will develop fungal infections. Ringworm is common especially if she is immunocompromised due to being FIV positive. Her veterinarian will examine her and may recommend some skin tests. Based on these results, treatment can be started. I hope this information helps!
