Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 2 years and 4 months old | 25 lbs
Our dog gets allergies this time of year in South Carolina so we give him a daily Claritin. It helps, but he still gets eye boogers. Lately we’ve noticed gunk in one of his eyes rather than just around his tear ducts. Is this due to normal allergies, or an eye infection? It’s usually a grayish color and a little dull green - picture of it is included. We’ve noticed this for maybe a couple of weeks. He’s happy and healthy otherwise and recently had a vet checkup w/ no issues. Thanks so much!

If you are noticing a greenish color beyond 4 days, this likely represents an infection. Pets with allergies can be more prone to infections. I recommend to have Louie checked by the veterinarian. He will likely get an eye antibiotic. Other things you can do at home to help his allergies include applying lubricating drops a couple times a day to help additionally flush the eyes but this may not clear the current potential infection. You can do this through the allergy season. I recommend to ask your vet about some options for eye lubricating drops (there may be some over the counter products). I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
