My cat is vomiting, constipated, and losing weight. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 2 months old | 15 lbs

My cat has been recently throwing up once a week & recently I’ve noticed he has been constipated. I changed his food about 3 weeks ago but he’s had it in the past. Also I’ve noticed he’s been losing weight. Should I be concerned? what should I do ?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Garfield. Yes it is concerning that he's been vomiting, is constipated, and has lot weight. I see he's an older boy, and some of his symptoms can be caused by a serious medical condition like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, kidney failure, heart disease, or even cancer. I would take him into the vet in the morning. I recommend getting a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis to see what is going on. I hope this helps!
