My cat is underweight and vomiting. What digestible food can help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

About 6 months ago my cat was sick and had a fever. He lost some weight. They did tests and he didn’t have anything specific- diabetes etc. However since that time he hasn’t gained weight back and seems to be throwing up more often. Is there a cat food you recommend to gain weight back that will be more digestible?

I would recommend taking Oliver back to the vet for re-evaluation. The vet may decide that retesting for diabetes and hyperthyroidism is a good idea - sometimes in the early stages of disease the tests would be very close to the normal range. If those tests are normal, then IBD should be considered. The most digestible diet without a prescription would be canned cat food, like Fancy Feast. The only way to help him gain weight is to get him to eat more food.
