Why is my dog's eye lump growing with watery eyes and sneezing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 35 lbs

My 1-year old dog has developed a small ball-like structure in the corner of her left eye over the past few days. It seems to be getting bigger... her eyes water a lot in general but this eye especially lately. Do we need to go to the vet or will it resolve itself? The only other thing worth noting is that she is sneezing and snorting quite a lot lately- perhaps allergies or she has a cold... Thank you.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is hard to say if the structure is attached to the lower eyelid or if it originates from the conjunctiva. I suspect this is a skin growth as conjunctival growths or cysts are very uncommon. Please, take Kira to your local vets as she need a full ophthalmic examination to make the definite diagnosis. If the growth is getting bigger, your vet may recommend to remove it surgically.

I can’t say for sure what it is. It could be a wart-like growth or a small tumor. I would definitely have Kira examined by a vet and consider removing it. Small growths in this area can rub on the cornea and cause irritation. The increased tearing will often cause sneezing and a runny nose since the tears drain out through the nose.
