My bird has wet sneezes, red nares, and smelly nostrils. Is it sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male | unneutered | 4 years old

For the past month, my bird has had wet sneezes maybe once a couple weeks. His nares get a little red, and he sneezes, but thats it. However, twice now I’ve noticed there was a smell from his nares. (Once two weeks ago and then today). it looks like theres a little bit of build-up in his nares but witin days it clears up. Its off and on over a month, but theres no other signs of him being actually sick. He seems fine. What do you think? Its tough to see a vet right now but if he needs to we will

Thanks for reaching out about Petri and including a photo. This could be a low grade sinus infection. Try give a humidity treatment in a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes once or twice daily for a few days. If the clinical condition worsens, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. This also would be a good time to review diet, as vitamin A deficiencies can play a part in low grade respiratory infections. Good luck.
