Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 14 lbs
My dog won’t stop licking and biting her paw. At first I thought it was a Shampoo issue, but only one paw is bothering her. She constantly licks it non-stop, and it has turned red. Is there any over the counter antibiotic I can apply to it, or anything I can do to relieve her pain/itchiness? A warm or cold cloth? I have noticed that is smells a lot worse than her other paws.

Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking. You can try soaking the paw in a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution once orntwice daily. Dry thoroughly afterwards. If there is no sign of improvement in a couple days, have her seen by your veterinarian. Prescription strength medication may be indicated.

Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking. You can try Epsom salt foot soaks or soaking in a dilute chlorhexidine solution. If it doesn't begin to improve in a day or so, you will need to see your veterinarian for an exam.

You can try soaking the paw in an epsom salt warm water bath and then applying a topical hot spot spray from your local pet store. Inspect the area for any punctures or cuts on the skin as well. If there is trauma to the skin, then it is worth considering taking Major in to your vet for further wound management to ensure it heals properly. Best wishes with Major and his paw. Take care.

This appears to be a mild skin infection. Two things: 1. Don't continue to let her lick this. No matter you put on it to heal it, it will not get better if she keeps licking. So, I suggest you get her a cone. It can be a soft-sided one but be sure it is long enough to go past the end of her nose or she will still be able to lick. 2. Order these medicated pads and wipe the affected area 2 times per day. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
