Why does my pet have a gray spot on their eye with no pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Roughhaired Pointer | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 53 lbs

A gray layer has started with a small dot size bump over the white layer of the eye. But my pet doesn't show any signs of pain or difficulty.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The grey/white discolouration of the cornea could be a corneal ulcer or corneal wound. It is usually a result of a scratch (self-inflicted or from other pet) or blunt trauma. It is very important to treat these problems promptly, as they potentially may turn into infected ulcer, which is a very serious condition of the eye. Please, take Jaanu to your local vets today if possible, to find out what is going on to start treatment right away.
