My dog has skin problems, a red tongue, and won't eat. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 25 days old | 70 lbs

I noticed my dog had some skin issues last night. I have attached a picture of his testicles and his nose where the skin problems have occurred. He also eats much slower than usual and don’t respond to treats like he usually does. His tongue has a slight red discolouration and salivates more frequently. It almost looks like he burned his tongue. He did go to the dog daycare two days ago but was isolated from other dogs. He went on 4 walks that day. Could it be from allergies to pollen?

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The skin lesions on the scrotum and nose could be related to allergies, but not the tongue. The tongue looks very sore and it does resemble chemical burn. Please, take Diesel to your vets, as this must be very painful for hm. He also may have burn to the esophagus and the stomach if he swallowed the corrosive substance.
