My 14lb puppy ate a Lindt milk chocolate truffle. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 29 days old | 14 lbs

My dog ate a single, milk chocolate lindt lindor truffle. I caught her with the wrapper in her mouth, and I got the wrapper out of her mouth, but she ate the whole piece of chocolate. She is 5 months old and about 14 lbs. It is night time here, so she currently just fell back to sleep.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I don't think there is anything to worry about. The toxic dose for milk chocolate is about 5g per each pound of body weight. So, your Stella would have to eat about 70g of milk chocolate before we would recommend any treatment. She should be fine, I don't expect she will develop any concerning symptoms at all

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If it was just one chocolate and it was milk or white chocolate he will be fine. There isn’t a lot of cocoa in milk and white chocolate to cause toxicity. You may see vomiting or diarrhea. If it lasts longer than a day I would contact a vet for medications to stop the diarrhea or vomiting. Kisses to Charlie!
