Why is my 6-week-old kitten losing fur? Is this normal or serious?

I have a 6 wk old kitten who lost his top coat. Why? What could be wrong? Is this normal? Should i be concern? Will it grow back and if so how can i help him grow it back?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Gizmo. Typically kittens start to lose their kitten fur around 6 to 12 months of age. Losing fur at this age can be a sign of a medical problem like mites. Without seeing him person, I can't say what is causing it and how it can be treated. I'd have him seen by a vet to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. With Nola being so young it is possible that she has a skin parasite or skin infection that needs treatment. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely due to allergies most likely to fleas. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having

It does sound like you think he may be feeling sick as well so I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment so that he can be started on the right therapy. I have 4 kittens 7 weeks old. One kitten is losing its fur. Fur is thinning all over the body and you can see its little pink body. Other kittens are fine. Please can you help/
I would bring Kitten 4 to the vet for a checkup if you haven't already. Not getting enough nutrition, an underlying illness or metabolic issue, or even something such as parasites/fungal/skin infections could be causing hair loss. Excessive grooming by the kitten or mom may also cause hair loss in the areas where it is scratched or licked too much. If kitten is bothered by it, using an e-collar or tiny t-shirt to prevent scratching and chewing may help until your vet can take a look to determine the cause.

My 3 kitten bubu kitty mok have hair loss. They eat whiskas wet food jr and royal canin baby cat. How to lessen the hair loss?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Without seeing Bubu it’s hard to say why she has hair loss. I doubt it is from her diet but I would be concerned about parasites like fleas 9 demodex or she could have a skin infection. I recommend taking her to a vet for an exam. They may also check a stool sample for intestinal parasites which could be taking her nutrients causing hair loss. Good luck and kisses to Bubu!

My 11 week old kitten is showing signs of hairloss above both eyes. He is not itching that area and does not appear red on his skin or his eyes. Hes eating and drinking great. Playing a lot still. All stool and urine looks normal. Is this normal?
It is really difficult to tell much from the photos - they are a bit fuzzy. That being said, it does not appear to be normal from what I can see. There are three very common reasons for hairloss in kittens: ringworm, mange or fleas. There are others but they would be less likely: pyoderma (skin bacterial infection), pemphigus, injury, underlying endocrine disease, etc. Ringworm is the number one rule out in kittens and that is my best guess at this point. Since ringworm is contagious to humans and other animals I suggest you get Pernell to your vet for an exam and to talk about testing and treatment options. Many skin diseases will look similar in presentation so testing is important. You need to know what you are dealing with so the proper treatment can be instituted. Ringworm and mange have different treatments, as do most other skin diseases on the list. So, try to get him in to your vet for an exam ASAP. My 6 week old kitten has a little patch above his eye and it hardly has hair. His eyes are watery and are getting gunked up and I just noticed that he has blood on his Iris.
Hairloss in a kitten is commonly caused by a ringworm infection. Goopy eyes and/or nose is commonly caused by an upper respiratory infection. Hi, my cat all of a sudden started losing her haor. She is 6 weeks old. When you pull hair it comes off easily with white gunk at the bottom. Help
This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Sushi regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
