My cat is losing fur and has an irritated patch. Does she need a vet?

Do I need to take my cat to see our vet? Her fur mowing resulted in this irritated-looking patch and I am worried about her.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Gogoasa. It may be she has feline acne. This would cause the irritation and scratching. It should be checked out by a vet, but it's not an emergency. I'd get her into a vet this week. If she does have it, a medicated wash can be prescribed to treat it. I hope this helps!

Attached pictures- my cat has a patch of fur missing and her exposed skin is very red, is it an infection? She’s not on any medication currently. It’s been her bald patch has been like this for a week and only recently did her skin become red
It looks like Roxy has a small area of a skin infection. I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian. Here they can dispense antibiotics and potentially medication to help her stop licking or scratching (if she is). I hope Roxy feels better soon and thank you for using Boop by Petco!

My cat has an irritated looking patch of skin by his armpit that has resulted in hair loss in that area. I am wondering exactly what this is, what could have caused it, and if I need any type of prescription or to take him to physically see a vet.
Hi there, Thanks for the good picture. This is quite an inflamed patch of skin that Hamilton has. The pink granulation tissue tells me it's been present for likely a week already. Its difficult to tell without physically feeling around and palpating the wound, associated lymph nodes, and other physical exam findings. It could be an old wound that is in the healing stages or it could be something like a skin plaque that is growing and worsening. It looks like he has been spending a lot of time licking at it, indicating itch or pain. I recommend taking Hamilton to see his veterinarian for a full physical and they will be able to advise best for diagnostics and treatment after seeing him. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This is likely an infection possibly due to allergies. If you are able to it would be best to have him evaluated before that time as this is likely causing her to be in discomfort. Otherwise, this is not an emergency and can likely wait until Saturday. In the meantime, before seeing your veterinarian try to get an e-collar to prevent her from licking at it and causing more trauma. You can find an e-collar at your local pet store. Best of luck!

I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. If it looks infected, or she rubs at it, you see redness in the eye, or eye discharge, then I would take her into a vet. I hope this helps!

I would recommend having Sally examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! There is a variety of reasons that can explain alopecia or hair loss. The causes can easily be differentiated by the clinical signs associated with it and the physical exam findings. If Aurora is only showing some hair loss without scratching or overgrooming then it could conditions such as alopecia areata that can affect cats and usually resolves on its own. If there is evidence of scratching and you start noticing some redness or irritation associated with it, then other conditions such as allergies are possible. If you notice her overgrooming herself in that area then it could be something like psychogenic alopecia which is more of a behavioral issue. I think that since she is not having overt clinical signs and it is mostly hair loss, I think it is possibly transient and could resolve on its own. You can monitor this closely and if it does not resolve or it worsens then have her examined by your veterinarian. Good luck!
