My cat has a bald spot on her chin. Could it be feline acne?

Hi there! My cat has a spot on her chin. I am not sure what it is. It’s also looking like there is less hair on the spot but I am not sure.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Cleo. Oh my, she is gorgeous! I see what you mean about the spot. It could be from an injury but it could also be a sign of feline acne. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I'd have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about C and for providing pictures, they are very helpful! Yes, this could be feline acne, but I can't say for certain without seeing her in person. I'd take her into the vet in the morning to get this diagnosed. If she does have feline acne, the vet can prescribe a medicated wash to treat it. I would also change her food and water bowls from plastic to metal, as plastic bowls exacerbate feline acne. my cat developed a very small pimple type red spot on her chin underneath. I wouldn't have noticed but she is pure white and it is easy to see because of her color. any suggestions or concerns she never goes outside ever thank you
This small pimple type spot could be from an injury (such as scratching her chin), an infection, or chin acne. I would gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and keep an eye on it for now. If it doesn't go away, it gets bigger, more of them appear, or you see redness, swelling, or pus in the area then I would take Crystal into the vet to have the area looked at and treated. Storm has a red patch under his chin. Thought it might be food so I tried to clean it off with a pet wipe and he kept growling at me. Is it possible its a scab or sonething else?
This looks like chin acne or a mild abrasion that is getting infected. I would wipe it with an acne pad if he’ll let you, or clean it with some hydrogen peroxide. Then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. From the photo this looks like it should heal in a week or so. If not then bring him in to your veterinarian for treatment. Some cats get chin acne from eating out of a plastic bowl so switch to a metal or ceramic bowl. Also taking a warm damp cloth and wiping the area after he eats will help this clear up more quickly. He has had mild feline acne before on his chin, but never red with hair loss like this before. Is this still feline acne? It doesn’t seem to bother him or be painful, he is still eating and acting normally. Does this warrant a trip to the vet? Thank
Hello, that does look suspicious for feline acne. Although, other skin infections can should still be consider. That can also be an area of skin infection or ring worm. If if continues to spread, or if Bo develops itchiness or discharge from the area, then you should have it evaluated soon. Best of luck and hope this helps.

This is chin acne. I recommend cleaning the area and making sure she is eating and drinking out of ceramic or stainless steel bowls. Plastic bowls collect bacteria and when cats eat out of them the bacteria gets into their skin creating acne. Severe chin acne should be treated with antibiotics. So if this is not resolving then I recommend a veterinarian. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hello. This is a touch of skin acne, which often has a bacterial component to it. Make sure you are using either stainless steel or ceramic/glass water & food dishes. Gently clean Selene's chin daily using benzoyl peroxide or chlorhexidine shampoo or pads. If using shampoo, make sure to remove all soap residue. If the chin lesions persist after a week or so of cleaning, she may need antibiotics )( oral or topical ) to help treat this. Thanks for contacting Boop by Petco.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Neo. Given the location of her lesion and your description, I suspect that she is developing a condition known as feline acne. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian to confirm this is the case. If so, medicated wipes can be used to disinfect her chin. More serious cases can require oral antibiotics. It looks like feline chin acne. If he eats from plastic bowls, switch them out for glass, steel or ceramic bowls. Some cats are allergic to plastic. You can clean his chin twice daily with a Stridex acne pad (NOT the kind with salicylic acid, but the kind with benzoyl peroxide), or you can use a cotton ball with regular hydrogen peroxide to clean his chin. If it does not improve significantly in a few days or gets worse, please get him in to see your vet as this could indicate a more serious condition.

The black spots on your cats chin is chin acne. I would recommend making sure your cat is drinking out of stainless steel or ceramic bowls and that they are cleaned at least once a day.
