Tony takes methimazole & his thyroid has increased from 2.4 in Feb. to 3.9 this month. My vet does not want to change his methimazole dosage b/c he has gained weight and otherwise is not showing any changes. what behavior changes should I look out for? Only change I’ve noticed in the last few weeks is that he no longer sleeps in bed with me but I have no idea if that’s a Behavior related to thyroid. He has become a little picky with his food but since he’s gained weight, vet not concerned.

Hi there. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism generally include things like weight loss, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive vocalization, and increased appetite or thirst. I would tend to agree with your veterinarian that if your kitty is not losing weight or having any other symptoms of a problem, there is no reason to change his medication dosage - although an increase may be needed in the future if he starts to have symptoms again.
