My 2-week-old kitten has a raw bottom from diarrhea. What can I use?

I have a 2 week old kitten. She had a bout of diarrhea for which I gave her some ponazuril. The diarrhea has caused that area to be very raw and irritated. I have been putting desitin on it but was wondering if something else might help it more

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Selina. Poor girl. You can try putting a little vaseline on the area to see if that helps. If it doesn't help, then I would have her seen by a vet for a medicated cream. Best of luck.

Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Consider a veterinary probiotic such as Bene-Bac, ProViable or FortiFlora. You can fast her for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to her regular diet afterwards.
