My senior cat has a growing, scabby lump on her knee. Is it urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 15 years and 4 months old | 8 lbs

My 15 year old Siamese has a lipoma on her right knee. I first noticed it about a year ago. It was about the size of a tictac. It has begun growing rapidly- it’s about the size of a big Lima bean, has no hair anymore, and has small scabs. When I touch/grab it she does not respond in pain at all, and she is not limited in her movement. Is this an urgent situation?

I don't believe it is urgent. but as soon as you can you should have it aspirated and discuss removal with your veterinarian. It may be a benign growth but if it causes a hinderence to mobility then it becomes a larger issue. It is best to remove them when they are small.
