Why is my cat lethargic, grooming, and not playful after vet check?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 9 lbs

Cat still not his hyper self. Went to vet 2 days ago and no intestinal parasites, no diarrhea, no vomiting, normal eating and drinking. Bloodwork normal with eosinophils slightly high and neutrophils slightly low. Doctor said not too significant. He has a few fleas. He normally wrestles siblings and destroys paper and hasn't done either. Grooming himself often. Neutered but reacts to females in heat. Been weird since left overnight with siblings in covered patio (ventilated, food, water)

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds that your cat had a thorough investigation at your vets. Some cats are lethargic and less playful when they have fever (I guess that was checked by your vet) or painful condition, for example muscle pain, joint pain, spinal pain and more. If his activity is not back to normal in 2-3 days I would suggest trying a short course of anti-inflammatory medications.
