Is lavender waterless cat shampoo safe? Will it hurt my cat?

i am looking to buy a waterless shampoo for my cat, i found a lavender calming one on amazon but read online that lavender is toxic to cats. should i buy this? will it hurt my cat?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Fish. In a cat shampoo, this lavender will be very diluted so it won't cause her any problems. It will be safe to use. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. As long as your cat doesn't eat/drink an excessive amount of this shampoo, she should be just fine. And as long as you didn't get any into her eyes, she should be OK. In the future, it is not recommended to use human shampoos on animals - there are special animal shampoos that are not as irritating if gotten into the eyes, and nontoxic if consumed. I recommend monitoring for any vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, or any neurologic signs such as tremors or seizures. These could indicate a toxicity. If she is squinting her eyes, this could mean you got shampoo in her eyes and caused damage to her corneas. If you see any of these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian right away. I did research the name, and I could not find any information about it being toxic to cats. I suspect that if it was causing problems, it would have come up on my veterinary database. However, I am not a big fan of essential oils in cats. They do not tolerate them as well as dogs do. So, I would not use it again in my cats to be on the safe side. I think that they are going to be just fine. If they did start to show irritation - you will need to bathe in Dawn dish soap to get the oil off. I don't expect it at all, but just wanted to let you know what to use if they did get irritated. Good luck! Thanks for reaching out to Boop by Petco!

Hello. I was wondering if seventh generation lavender detergent and softener if healthy for cats to smell when the clothes are in was? Its a stronger scent. I see that there is lavender oil. There’s a picture of the ingredients
I wouldn't have any concerns about contacting this small amount of lavender oil. Cats can be sensitive to essential oils that are diffused in the air or used topically on the cat, but contact with a small amount shouldn't be a concern.

ive been trying to use only all natural products because my pets are allergic/ very sensitive to a lot of products all the natural one seem to work really well for them i usually get their stuff online but i was at Walmart and bought no rinse waterl
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. This appears to be one of the better ones I’ve seen. Other than the last ingredient (dye- probably in minuscule amounts since its last on the list), this product appears to be made entirely from plant extracts and I would indeed call it “natural”.

I bought a hair loss shampoo for myself called Nioxin. It does not contain minoxidil but does contain peppermint oil which I’ve read can be toxic to cats. I’m attaching a picture of the ingredients - is this safe for me to use with a cat in the house
I would be cautious using this around your cat. Since the shampoo isn't something that will remain on your hair since you rinse it out, the chance of exposure is low, but cats are particularly sensitive to peppermint oil. Even breathing the aroma of peppermint oil can cause shortness of breath and increased heart rate. Again, since you're rinsing it out and it's a very small amount in the shampoo, I feel the chance of there being a problem is small, but I would be careful, maybe changing the time your wash your hair to earlier in the day so the scent will have dissipated by bedtime. Rosemary can also be toxic to cats though I haven't been able to find any further information about how toxic it may be.

Hi, you can use the dry shampoo as long as it’s formulated for cats. If not, you can use plain water but rather than trying to dip him or soak him, you can try just using a wet cloth and rub it around his body. Hope this helps,

I had to wash my cat using gentle human body wash. Will this hurt her when she grooms herself?
A one-time bath using a sensitive skin or gentle wash designed for people likely won't harm your cat, but it may still be a good idea to check any specific ingredients in it for toxicity. You can find lists of toxic plants/substances on sites such as here: https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Signs of toxicity to look out for may include minor symptoms such as drooling, foaming at the mouth, seizure, disorientation, dilation of pupils, vomiting or diarrhea. If you do see any signs that may indicate a possible toxicity or find an ingredient that is toxic to your pets in it, it is best to contact your local veterinarian for treatment.

I recently read that Lavender oil can be toxic to cats, even if it's just inhaled. I regularly use a diffuser in my bedroom. My cat doesn't seem to have any negative reaction to it though. But some articles have said that it takes time for the toxins
It really depends on the product and the concentration. The fact that it is organic would not necessarily make a difference in the potential for problems. The truth is that there is little known about the safety of these products, because the companies have not adequately tested their products with animals. There are some essential oil diffusers like lavender that have been known to cause respiratory and skin problems. In general, dogs and cats are going to be more sensitive to the smell of these products than humans, so it may be at-least displeasing to them. Cats are more sensitive than dogs, so they will likely serve as the sentinel if there are going to be any issues. If you are already using the oils and not noticing any problems, then they are likely OK; but no one really knows for sure. If you notice an increase in sneezing, coughing, or skin problems, then it would be wise to remove the diffuser. I hope that helps and all is well with Shyanne.

I accidentally put some lavender scent sleep balm to my kitten he's 2 months I didn't know that lavender can be harmful to them I wash him with warm water but the scent still lingers to his skin and he keeps grooming that part what can I do?
You need to wash him with something like dishwashing liquid to remove the oil. Just using water is not helpful to remove the product. If he starts showing any signs of illness you need to get him to a vet immediately.

My dog has fleas and I accidentally used cat flea and tick shampoo instead of the dog shampoo. Is that bad?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It depends on the ingredients in it though none of them tend to be harmful to dogs so Whiskey should be ok. However, I would encourage you to get a flea preventative/treatment product such as Bravecto or Frontline plus for example. Good luck and have a great day!
