My cat passed. When to clean litter box to remove scent for others?

I have a multi-cat home and one of our 14yr cats just passed away a couple of hours ago at home, so the other two are aware that he has passed. Should I wait a couple days to clean the litter box or should I change the litter right away to remove his scent? Thank you.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am so sorry for your loss. It is very possible that this is because he can smell her presence in the room. I recommmend that you try to clean the room as much as possible and to give him some time for him to get used not having his sister around. This can take time just like when we lose someone we love. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. With her age, I would check to see that the litter box is not too high for her. Some cats with arthritis will stop using the litter box because it hurts too much to get in. I would also change the litter so that the old litter box has the new litter (if you haven't done so already). Change the old litter box to something similar to this temporary litter box and see if this helps. I believe they do mourn much as we do. My condolences on behalf of the entire Boop by Petco team. Spend some extra time with your remaining cat and consider a pheromone product, such as Feliway spray or plug in diffuser, which may decrease any anxiety.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry for the loss of your cat, and it sounds like Brostom is taking it pretty hard. Our pets experience grief and loss, and just like people, it takes them a variable amount of time to deal with that loss. If Brostom was very close with the other cat, he might benefit from having another cat in the home to keep him company. If you decide to pursue this, I recommend a slow introduction and keeping the new cat in a separate room for a few days where they can smell each other under the door. If this increases Brostom's agitation, then it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying. I hope this helps.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Lilith. I agree that two months is a bit for grief, especially if they were not bonded. I see that she is an older girl, and so the first thing to do is take her into a vet for a health check. Even though she appears healthy, a sudden change in behavior can be the first sign of an illness. So have her seen by a vet in the next few days. I would also get a Sentry calming collar and a Feliway diffuser. Both release calming pheromones, and that may help with her behavior. While at the vet, if she checks out healthy, the vet can discuss other strategies to deal with this. I hope this helps!

If the Betta tank is currently empty, I would suggest changing the gravel and cleaning it very well before putting another fish in it. Make sure to change the water regularly as this is often the cause of issues with Betta fish. Best of luck!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear your new cat has been having litterbox issues. To start, I would recommend offering at least one other box of a different kind (covered vs not, for example). I would also add cat attract litter to the boxes, and consider putting a pheromone collar on her. If these suggestions are insufficient to help with her issue, I would recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian to assure that there is no underlying medical issue contributing to her urination problems and then moving on with a plan from there. My cat was spayed yesterday—I picked her up at 3:30, so about 29 hours ago. She is eating relatively normally and has had some water, but she hasn’t used the litter box at all and I’m worried something is wrong.
Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. Binx would have been fasted before surgery, so that may be why she hasn't used the litter box yet. It's very good she has eaten and is drinking, and I do expect she should use the litter box soon. If she hasn't in the next 24 hours, then I would be worried and have her seen by a vet. It is not uncommon when pets have not been eating or drinking well to have more extended time between visits to the box. It your kitty was a bit dehydrated from being sick this will also mean less urine in the box too. As it seems that your kitty is feeling better with the care your vet provided i would give it a little time. If he or she is eating then things should normalize. If he or she starts to feel sick again then dehydration may make things worse, and a recheck with your vet is then advised. I hope this helps and thank you for using Boop by Petco!
