Why is my rat suddenly aggressive, biting, and dragging his belly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My rat has been aggressive as of today. He's been digging at stuff and also dragging his crotch across whatever he can find. He bit me which he has never done before. Is he sick? Or in pain?

Thanks for reaching out about Thor. Either are possible, and a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Is he still eating, drinking, defecating and urinating? Dragging the ventral abdomen could be discomfort from a urinary tract infection/obstruction (possible calculi), constipation or other problem. Good luck.
