My dog had anal bleeding and grass in poop. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Chinese Li Hua | Male | neutered | 11 years and 2 months old | 12 lbs

Hi Hulu had a bit anal bleeding and I found some grass in his poo. It was 2 days ago and he has been eating as normal, no blood seen anymore but I am just wondering whether this is something that I should be concerned. I have attached a picture. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Hulu is not bleeding anymore and he is acting as normal, you need to monitor him at home. The bleeding could be a sign of rectal trauma, for example from passing hard, sharp faeces, or it may be a discharge with blood from anal glands. If Hulu starts to bleed again, or if he is scooting after defecation, you should get him checked over by your vets.
