Is my dog's long-standing white mole cancerous after being nicked?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 90 lbs

my dog has this mole on his right upper back. its normally white but it got nicked when my groomer shaved him. he has had this for 4-5+ years. i want to know if skin cancer. diameter is a little less than 1/2 inch. initially dark purple/black colored but now white for the past 2-3 years. he is 8 year old germ sheph/lab mix. normally healthy and has little lumbar arthritis. labs have been normal except for elevated liver enzyme/thyroid.

Hello. This is probably one of the many benign skin nodules dogs can get. If it has been relatively quiet for the past several years, it is not likely a something neoplastic or of great concern. If it grows, changes color again, or begins to bleed, then it might be a good idea to just have it removed. Some benign growths can turn cancerous, although this is pretty rare.
