My dog has vaginal swelling and discharge after heat. Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 11 years and 2 months old | 8 lbs

I've noticed a small "elevation" at this area above my dog's vagina, she's been having a little bit of discharge but she had her period recently, could this be normal?

Yes, this could be completely normal and could be due to the recent heat cycle. If the discharge becomes cloudy, green or yellow in color, it is best to seek veterinary care as soon as possible as that may indicate something more serious such as a uterine infection.
