My 7-week puppy won't eat new food after switching. Is Pedigree okay?

Hello. Just got my new puppy. They had her on pedigree soft puppy food. A sales associate in PetCo suggested we switch her to Merricks lil plates puppy food. She’s eaten the new food just fine but tonight she only ate a little. Is that normal? What should I do? Is pedigree puppy food bad for my 7 week old puppy?

Don't listen to sales associates about food choices. They are not trained in animal nutrition. Ivorie probably doesn't like the new food, and I would not recommend Merricks. Pedigree is fine for her, keep her on that. I hope this helps!

Any dog food that is AAFCO rated for growing puppies should be appropriate. I am partial to Purina Pro Plan, Hill's Science Diet, or Royal Canin as these are backed by research and are high quality for puppies.

Poor girl. I would try some wet food such as Hill's Science diet or Eukanuba as an alternative. You can try mixing it first to try to avoid stomach upset. If she is also acting ill however, she needs to be seen by your vet to have her checked out to determine the underlying issue there. Try giving her some treats for now to make sure her glucose levels stay up. Small soft puppy treats are advised so that she can easily eat them. pedigree is not a good quality food, i would recommend something better like Royal Canin or Orijen. the amount you need to feed is written on the food label according to your puppy's age and size. at her age she needs to eat 4-5 times a day, by the age of 8 weeks you can gradually switch it to 3 times a day.

There can be many reasons for finicky eating: https://www.petcoach.co/article/my-pet-is-a-finicky-eater/ Do be careful about mixing a bunch of other things with her food or switching her food frequently. This can create a finicky eater. You may try adding a tablespoon of the canned Pedigree to the kibble at meal time. You could also shred about a tablespoon worth of boiled white meat chicken and add warm water. You could also try switching the food. The two brands that seem to be most palatable are Royal Canin and Purina ProPlan. Also, as long as your pet is healthy, its ok if she skips a couple meals. Dogs are smart and they often train humans to give them something else. Have her examined if illness or a medical cause is suspected. which food is the best for puppy pedigree or something else
Shimar is so cute!! I think as long as your are feeding a high quality commercial puppy food then she is getting all the nutrients she needs. My favorites are science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina. All of these have been around for a long time and have several studies to back up their product. I hope this helps!

For now you should probably switch back to what he was on before as this is likely what is causing the diarrhea. ideally you would eventually want him on something better than Pedigree which is a relatively low quality food. some good brands i usually recommend include: Arden Grange, Barking Heads and James Welbeloved.

My dog has not been eating well for last week. He eats at night. If we feed him pedigree he will eat it but if we feed him his regular food he refuses.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Causes of a decrease in appetite are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infection, he ate something gross that is upsetting his stomach, he ate something that is stuck, food allergy/intolerance, Inflammatory Bowel disease, Addison's disease, new treat/food/table food. Sometimes this can be behavioral as well, he is waiting for something better like the Pedigree. If there is not other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy then that is likely the problem. If you recently got a new bag of his food the company may have changed the formula or there is a issue with that bag of food. If you really don't want to feed him Pedigree then hold your ground. Offer his normal food, you can add water to it to make it more tempting, and if he doesn't eat it then pick it up. Do not offer treats or any other food and then he is not fed again until his next meal time. You can also consider feeding him once daily. If he is otherwise sick, please repos

Zoey is not eating her food properly.... I changed that from pedigree to Royal Canin... But she is continually ingnoring the food... She eats some and then runs away... And the she eats some more from my hand if I feed her... Then runs away again....
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Zoey. You can try adding warm water to the dry kibble, offer her canned dog food (alone or mixed with the dry food) or offer the original Pedigree diet. Once her veterinarian is back to town, she will need to be seen if her symptoms persist. You need to determine if she is ill or if she is having trouble adjusting to the new diet. Pocholo is 7 weeks now. Some told me that feeding him with pedigree will be harmful in the future. What product would be safe for him. I'm from the Philippines and I only see pedigree and alpo products here.
Pedigree is better than Alpo in my opinion, and if that is the best option you have to feed Pocholo, there's nothing wrong with feeding him that. It's not harmful to feed him this, but I would make sure you are feeding him a puppy formulated food. Puppies need higher amounts of calories, protein, and calcium than adult dogs, and a puppy formulated food will give him that.

Thank you for posting the food! I can certainly understand being concerned about this food, it is not a good quality food in my opinion. And from your previous post, it does sound like it was upsetting her stomach. I would consider switching her to a different food slowly. You can give her a high quality food like I mentioned previous, such as Royal Canin or Hills Science diet, but other good quality foods include Iams and Purina Pro Plan. To switch food, you mix the new food and old food together, gradually increasing the amount of the new food and decreasing the amount of the old food until your puppy is eating the new food only. This help prevents GI upset.
