What are the best high-quality dog supplements to add to food?

I'm looking for a high quality supplement to add to my dogs food, have you ever heard of Dr. Jeff's Optimum canine care? If so do you think it would be a good one to use? If not could you please recommend one?

I am not familiar with Dr. Jeff's products. So sorry. I'm not really sure what you are looking for in a supplement? An immune system booster? Just a vitamin? Probiotics? Skin/Coat health? Joint health? It has been around for a long time. Excellent company and product with no previous issues. Cost effective. Very palatable so dogs like it. The most common thing that happens as large breed dogs age is arthritis so I would just put him on a good all around supplement that contains joint supplements in it. I love this supplement by Missing Link. http://www.allivet.com/p-1647-missing-link-vet-canine-plus.aspx Some signs he may have arthritis are: * having a hard time getting up from a down position * not jumping up on the couch, bed, etc like he normally does (if he does that) * slowing down on walks (like he doesn't seem like he can go as far as he used to) Even if he is not showing signs of arthritis I would put him on a joint supplement. The other thing I would recommend is yearly blood testing with your vet to check his organ function. Declining organ function is not something you can see from the outside just by looking at your dog. Usually by the time you do see something abnormal it is often too late to do anything about it. This is a very good question! It is always wise to be proactive about our pet's health. If you ever have concerns about how your dog is doing then a call and visit to your vet can help to set your mind at ease. Things to watch for that would indicate health problems include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite and energy level, unusual behaviors and limping. Discuss food recommendations with your regular veterinarian. Brands such as Purina, Hills and Royal Canin all have veterinarians on-staff to ensure their food is top quality and nutritionally balanced. If you are feeding a good balanced diet then supplements of vitamins and minerals are not necessary.

Motis is a senior dog who is in good health condition, however I would like to know what types supplements I can give her in order for she to have optimal health.
If you are giving Motis a dog food formulated for senior dogs, she will be getting all the vitamins and minerals she needs to be healthy. You can give her a glucosamine supplemental which will help with her joint health, but otherwise no other supplements are needed. Too many vitamins and minerals can be detrimental to her health, so you want to avoid overdosing her on those. I recommend feeding a high quality senior dog food food such as Royal Canin, Hills Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. Best of luck.

What are good joint supplements for dogs?
Dasuquin with MSM and Cosequin DS Plus MSM (both by Nutramax Labs) are excellent products. I prefer these because it is the same company that makes the human product, Cosamin, and one of the few companies that submits its products for outside testing to verify ingredients. The GlycoFlex line of products would also be one to consider. These are my own personal recommendations.

What's your opinion on supplements for dogs? For example do you think the following is good to give my dog? Joint pill, fish oil, probiotics, pumpkin. Why or why not? Are these things needed?
If you are feeding a high quality, well balanced diet and your dog has no underlying health conditions, additional supplements are unlikely to be required. If you have any concerns, a full check up should be performed to identify the underlying conditions and advise on any supplements which can help. If your dog is a picky eater or on a mixed diet then certain supplements can help to replace nutrients which she is not consuming and the advice of a nutritionist to balance the diet should be considered

I personally think these are a waste of money. If Bruno is on a high quality diet he should not need any extra supplements unless he is sick and your vet has suggested it. The Beaphar doesn't have anything in it that his regular food doesn't already have. I don't see how this will boost his immunity. For the Drool's product I cannot find a list of ingredients anywhere so I cannot comment on it. If you would like to post again as to why you think he needs a supplement maybe we can help you better.

My personal preference, completed unrelated to Boop by Petco or Petco, would be Cosequin ( http://www.cosequin.com/dogs/ ) or Dasuquin ( http://www.dasuquin.com/en/products/#dog ). Both are made by Nutromax Labs.

Hello I want to know if there is any vitamins that I can give to my adult dogs for their overall health? Or is it even necessary? they go from 3 to 7 years old I want them to keep being healthy and keep living a good life and maybe prevent diseases.
As long as your dogs are getting a high quality dog food, you do not need to give them any vitamins. Their food will provide all the vitamins they need. You can give them glucosamine, which is a dietary supplement that helps with joint health. Typically it's given as 20 mg/lb of body weight, and you can find canine glucosamine tablets at the pet store. One of the most important things to do is have yearly vet health checks for them to make sure everything is ok. Be sure to keep up to date with their vaccines, flea treatment, deworming treatments, and heartworm treatments. Also have regular dental cleanings done with the vet. Just like humans, dogs need their teeth cleaned, and severe dental disease can lead to other problems such as liver abscesses and endocarditis from bacteria traveling from the mouth via the bloodstream.
