Why is my oranda goldfish's vent protruding? Is it constipated?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, good afternoon! I have a baby oranda goldfish that I believe is a male, when I go him he had a thin long vent shape. A couple days ago he was acting strange, but now he is back to normal. I have noticed that his vent is protruding, I’m not sure why, I was wondering if he might be constipaded? Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!

Constipation is possible. You can try fasting him for 3 days then feeding bits of cooked and shelled green peas. This may help get things moving again. Feed peas until he or she is defecating normally. You should also confirm stable water chemistry and temperature. Goldfish are cold water fish and do best between 68 F and 72 F.
