Can I give my cat tapeworm and roundworm medicine at the same time?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Since these medications kill two different kinds of worms, that's fine to give to Mia. I'd give her one of them today and then the other tomorrow. I hope this helps!

Unless your vet gave you specific instructions, the dewormers are different medications and do not interact, so they can be given at the same time. The only reason to separate the dewormers would be if there is a large worm infestation and the deworming is likely to cause diarrhea. To be on the safe side, you could wait 2 days after the roundworm medication to give the tapeworm medication. If I gave my cat roundworm medication within the past 24 hours then found out it was tapeworms, can I immediately give her medication that is meant to treat both tapeworm/roundworm? Or will that be too much roundworm medication within 24 hours? Thank
This would depend on the ingredients that you gave today and the ingredients in the tapeworm medication. There are a number of roundworm medications and I would not repeat a similar drug within 24hours but if the drug is a different drug class I would be less concerned. Your vets office may have a tapeworm only preparation available also. Please repost with more information on the active ingredients in the products if you would like further help

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If the first medication was only for round worms and wasn't broad spectrum (gets tapeworm too) then you can give a 2nd dewormer that JUST gets tape worms. I hope this helps and I wish Babycakes the best!

Can a 5 month old kitten be treated for both ringworm and tapeworm at the same time? She is currently taking itrafungol for the ringworm. But recently I found tapeworm eggs on her bed and not sure if I am treat that now.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I'm sorry to hear Luna is having issues. You can treat for them concurrently, and I would recommend getting her dewormed to treat her tapeworms. Tapeworms come from ingestion of fleas, so I would also ensure that she doesn't have a flea infection as well. Good luck!

Hi and thank you for your post on Boop by Petco! Yes, Capstar and Praziquantel used together or within 24 hours of eachother as you asked is just fine. However, just make sure the cat is at least 4 weeks old for use of Capstar and at least 6 weeks old for use of Praziquantel. I hope this helps and thank you for posting! Best of luck to you!

Hello, & thank you for using Boop by Petco. Technically, yes you can, but I recommend separating the 2 medications by a couple of hours, or even give one on one day & the other the next. This is just in case Rebel gets an upset tummy & vomits, you do not lose everything. Hope this helps. Take care.

Puppies and kittens need a series of repeated deworming medications. And even if they have been dewormed, it is common for them to have other intestinal parasites since there are so many different types of parasites and they each require a specific type of deworming. What you are describing is likely tapeworms, so hopefully the tapeworm medication will work. I am including more information about tapeworms below. https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951442 Since tapeworms are transmitted by fleas, you will also need to make sure that Ariel doesn't have fleas or she may have tapeworms again. I would also make sure that your veterinarian has checked a fecal sample on her to see if there are any other microscopic intestinal parasites that need to be treated, but may require a different type of dewormer. Hello. Since you wormed her for the tapeworms, it is a good idea to also worm for roundworms & hookworms. You should be able to easily find this at PetSmart, just look for anything that indicates it has pyrantel pamoate in it & just follow the label directions. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. As long as the worming tablet was in for about 30min then you don't need to give a second tablet. However a 2nd tablet, as long as it is one designed for cats, won't cause a problem. They have very high safety margins. Best of luck with your kittens!
