My senior dog has a deep draining sore on his hind leg. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 15 years and 9 months old | 75 lbs

This appeared on my dog, mixed breed, neutered male, age 15. It is an open sore that apeared on his right hind leg, is quite deep, and had drainage. It extends along the muscular tissue cranially in the direction of the stifle joint area. My dog does not mind the area handled, but it is feared he has lost some feeling in his hind end, which makes level of pain hard to determine. We are not sure if it is a cyst or abscess, or something else entirely.

It looks like a tumor that has abscessed. It don't think it is just a cyst but, it could be. This is something that is difficult to diagnose just based on some photos. You really should have your vet check this out.
