Why is my cat struggling to move? What to do if vets are closed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 4 months old

My cat is struggling to move around, he appears crouched and his tail looks like a limp dorsal fin. This has only been apparent for the past few hours. None of my local vets are open right now - I'd appreciate some advice but obviously try to arrange an appointment asap!

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Bugsy! Oh no, poor boy! I'm concerned he may have been injured and is in a lot of pain. Please do not give him any human pain medication, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. Keep him indoors if he's allowed outside, keep him confined to a small room to limit his movement, and keep him warm and comfortable. Get him into a vet as soon as possible. Best of luck.
