My dog's itchy skin meds caused stomach upset; can I stop other meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 12.3 lbs

My dog has been prescribed Nepcort, Cephalexin 200 mg and Apoquel 5.4 mg. He's had an upset stomach since we started dosage. First day vomiting, diarrhoea and loss of appetite. Day two just lethargic and loss of appetite eating a little bit. The neocort is helping his itchy skin alone, is it okay that I've stopped dosage of tablets?

Hello. It does look like Archie has some kind of sensitivity on his chin. I would stop the Cephalexin as this is most likely the source of his intestinal upset. If the ointment seems to be helping, then he probably doers not need the Apoquel, either. If Archie is eating from a plastic dish, switch to ceramic or stainless steel & make sure you wash the dish every day. Sometimes plastic & food residue can contribute to the facial irritation.
