My dog ate disinfectant spray. Can it cause swollen lymph nodes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 6 years and 9 months old

Took dog to get yesterday because he had a loss of appetite, weak hind legs and unusual quiet behaviour. His lymph nodes are very swollen. Vet said it could be lymphoma. Samples being sent off for testing. But we won't know for a few days. However, recently Teddy may have injested benzalkonium chloride from a disinfectant spray, could this have caused these symptoms?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Teddy. He could suffer toxicity from the spray. However, this should not affect the size of his lymph nodes. If there are other symptoms such as drooling, vomiting, mouth sores, then you should discuss these symptoms with his veterinarian. Otherwise, wait for the test results. Unfortunately, lymphoma is the most common cause of multiple lymph nodes are enlarged. I hope this information helps.
