My dog is shivering, stiff, and vomiting blood. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Long Coat) | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 6 lbs

Hi, my dog hasn’t been acting like herself lately. She is constantly shivering and doesn’t want to walk. She gets all tense and stiff and wont move. Today i went out for a walk with her and she only wanted to eat grass, so I thought that maybe her stomach hurts. And now she just threw up and there was something red in it. She is epileptic and takes medicine for it, we have been guving her painkillers which seem to make her feel better for a moment. Should i take her to the vet?

Yes, I recommend to have Grima examined today. I'm concerned she is in pain and that she feels really bad. Additionally, with the advent of the vomiting red, I'm concerned she might be puking blood and it sounds like the condition is getting worse. Just like humans, there are many different things that will cause the same clinical symptoms. Grima could have severe pancreatitis, a pyometra or even something like cancer. It's best to have her checked out quickly. I hope this helps and that they figure out what is wrong and that she gets better quickly. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
