What is this dark spot on my dog's gum? Is it normal or concerning?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 13 lbs

Hi, any idea on what this is? It doesn’t bother him, it’s been there for a couple of months, I always forget to mention it to his vet. His last check up was 3 weeks ago, and his vet said he was 100% healtht and perfect It doesn’t bleed, I’ve noticed no blood anywhere or in the water, he eats perfectly fine, and his normal otherwise.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It looks like local gum pigmentation or mild inflammation. I don't think there is anything to worry about, but please show it to your vet the next time you take Tiny for an appointment.

Hello. I noticed that your dog is quite young. It is very likely that these are just normal areas of pigmentation, but perhaps reposting with a photo would help us. Dark areas in the mouth that are concerning are usually raised, may have associated inflammation or odor. Many breeds of dogs have normal areas of pigment in the tongue or gums. As long as its not raised, and its never been ulcerated/bleeding, and its not changing in size, I don't think you need to be concerned. Pigment of skin and mucous membranes (gums, tongue, etc) can change with age and it is not indicative of a problem. If it DOES seem to be changing, if it becomes ulcerated or raised, talk to your vet; if that occurs, then it needs to be biopsied. But as I said already, based on what your saying and on your photo, I'm not worried. This can be a normal change. No one knows exactly why it happens. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!

This could be normal pigmentation in the gums. You can keep an eye on it now that your are brushing Snoopy's teeth daily. If it begins to grow or change rapidly, then he should be seen by your veterinarian.

My dog has a black spot where her canine presses into her gum. Is it a discoloration or should I be freaking out!!!
I would recommend getting your vet to check this closely, it appears in the pictures that the lower canine is making contact with the gum and chronic irritation can cause inflammation, scarring and occasionally tumour changes

does his teeth look normal? i brush them once a week but in the first picture his tooth looks different than the other one?
Both teeth look normal. The gums above the tooth are pigmented in the second picture, which can be normal. (like a freckle inside the mouth). There is mild tartar calculus on both teeth but the gums look healthy. Thank you for asking Boop by Petco! You are doing a good job with the brushing!

Hi and thanks for your post! That black around the gum line is a normal pigment variation. This type of pigmenting of the gums can be normal in some dogs like the Siberian Huskies. It does not indicate a health concern. Thanks for using Boop by Petco!

Spica has a weird spot by ver mouth. Should I be worried? What is it?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! I am not sure I know what spot you are referring to, but I think you mean the pinker spot on the left upper lip. It could be just be an area that lost some pigmentation, an area of trauma that will resolve or a permanent change in pigment. Personally I would just recommend watching the area and see if it changes. Have a good day!

Is the black spot normal? Should I be concerned? The red/pink part is razor burn from his groomers yesterday.
This does not look concerning to me. I suspect it is just normal pigmentation in the skin (like freckle-- only obvious quite large!). If he is licking at it a lot, or if the associated skin seems warm or inflamed, have your vet take a look. Again, overall I don't think you need to worry. Thanks for asking Boop by Petco!
